IMF to discuss its Article VI consultation with Ukraine in mid-December
The executive board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is planning to discuss the results of the Article VI (on obligations with regard to the currency regime) consultation with Ukraine over 2013 in mid-December, Director of the IMF External Relations Department Gerry Rice said at a press conference in Washington.
He said that "the discussions after the mission that took place in the second half of October" between the staff and the Ukraine authorities were continuing.
Rice added that the discussions are aimed at ensuring that policies are sufficiently ambitious to address Ukraine's challenges.
The latest IMF mission on Article IV worked in Ukraine in May 2012. After the work was over, the mission called on the Ukrainian authorities to increase utilities rates, improve payment discipline and boost forex rate flexibility.
