Inflation in Ukraine in October is 0.4%

Inflation in Ukraine in October 2013 was 0.4% following zero growth in consumer prices in September, the State Statistics Service reported on its Web site.

The service said that consumer prices had fallen by 0.2% since the beginning of the year.

According to its report, in October 2013, prices of food and soft drinks grew by 0.6% compared to the previous month. The prices of eggs and vegetables went up by 11.5% and 7.2%, respectively. Those for milk, butter, salo (pork fat), fermented milk products, sour cream, cheese and sugar grew by 2.2-0.5%.

Prices of fruit, vegetable, grain products, rice, macaroni, sunflower oil, meet and meet products, fish and fish products were down by 2.3-0.2%.

The prices of alcohol and tobacco grew by 0.5%.

The 0.1% growth seen in housing and utilities rates, including water, electricity, gas and other types of fuel, was caused primarily by a 2.4% increase in liquefied gas prices.

In the healthcare sector, prices rose by 0.4%, including a rise of 0.5% in the price of hospital services, a 0.2% rise in the price of outpatient services and a 0.4% rise in the prices of pharmaceutical products.

The prices of transport grew by 0.2%, which was mainly linked to the increase in the prices of cars, passenger transportation by road and railroad by 1.1-0.4%.

As reported, deflation in Ukraine in 2012 stood at 0.2% after the slowdown in inflation to 4.6% in 2011, from 9.1% in 2010.

The government forecasts that inflation in 2013 will accelerate to 4.8-6.1%.
