Ukraine's daily gas imports via Hungary increase 50%
Imports of natural gas to Ukraine via Hungary have restarted after a two-week shutdown, with the volume on the first day of resumption, August 15, equal to 9 million cubic meters, nearly 50% more than the daily maximum of 6.1 million cubic meters recorded in July.
The data was reported by Hungarian gas pipeline system operator FGSZ, which had previously announced that deliveries on the route to Ukraine would be shut down in the August 1-15 period in order to upgrade capacity.
Ukraine announced receipt of 9.027 million cubic meters on the route on August 15, FGSZ said.
Ukraine imported 310.5 million cubic meters of gas via Hungary in January-July 2013.
The deliveries are made under an agreement between Ukrtransgaz and FGSZ Ltd. Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Eduard Stavytsky has forecast that daily volumes via Hungary could rise to 12 million cubic meters a day from 5 million cubic meters beginning in August.
Gas imports to Ukraine in 2013, from both Russia and Europe, are performed by Naftogaz Ukrainy, OstChem, VETEK and DTEK.
