NPPs generate major part of electricity in 2012, TPPs receive largest income

Nuclear power plants (NPPs) of Ukraine in 2012 covered 46.97% needs of the country for electricity, while receiving only 23.16% of the total amount of funds spent on the purchase of electricity from the producers of the operator of the wholesale electricity market – Energomarket, Energomarket has reported.

The enterprise said that thermal power plants (TPPs) covered 39.73% of needs of the market for electricity, receiving 54.12% of the total amount of funds spent on the purchase of electricity from its producers.

Combined heat and power plants in 2012 covered 7.02% of the needs of the wholesale market, and their share of total expenses of Energomarket on purchase of electricity was 17.01%.

The share of large hydroelectric power plants in the purchases of Energomarket came to 5.85%, and they received only 2.94% of the total budget of the wholesale market.

Solar power plants in 2012 satisfied 0.18% of the needs of the market in electricity, that for wind power plants – 0.14%, small hydroelectric power plants – 0.1%, and power plants using biomass – 0.01%. Expenses on purchase of electricity from them came to 2.15%, 0.4%, 0.19% and 0.03% respectively of total expenses.

As reported, Ukraine's integrated power grids raised electricity output by 2.1% or 3.993 billion kilowatt-hours year-over-year in 2012, to 198.097 billion kWh.

Electricity consumption, including in-process losses in the Ukrainian grids, in 2012 grew by 0.4%, or by 764.4 million kWh, year-over-year, to 188.436 billion kWh. Electricity consumption that did not include in-process losses in the grids fell by 0.01%, or 20.9 million kWh, to 150.474 billion kWh.
