State medicine service stops operation representative of Heel on suspicion of trading counterfeit drugs

The State Service of Ukraine on Medicinal Products has stopped the operation of Kaskad-Medical Trade House LLC, an exclusive representative of Germany's Heel pharmaceutical company, for allegedly trading in counterfeit medicine, reads a posting on the service's Web site.

The report says that the grounds for the decision was the discovery of unpacked and non-registered medicines with labels in German and Ukrainian on the territory of Kaskad-Medical Trade House LLC. The packages did not contain serial numbers and expiration dates and they did not have patient information leaflets.

In addition, equipment for packaging and labeling medicine was installed on the territory of the company.

The service said that one of the medicines was Traumel S, which was one of the top 20 medicines in terms of sales in Ukraine in 2012.

Kaskad-Medical did not comment on the situation to Interfax-Ukraine.

On May 14, 2013, law-enforcement agencies and employees of the State Service of Ukraine on Medicinal Products reported on the revealing of counterfeit production of medicine with labels of Biologische Heilmittel Heel GmbH (Germany) in Vasylkiv (Kyiv region). The number of packages revealed is 3.9 million worth some UAH 300 million.

Biologische Heilmittel Heel GmbH is a large world's producer of biological medicine. It was founded in 1936 as a company for the production of homoeopathic medicine, and was later renamed Heel.
