Total Ukrainian cheese quality control lifted, says Russian agency
The Russian sanitary service has stopped checking each batch of cheese imported to Russia from Ukraine.
"Rospotrebnadzor has reported that checks on each batch of Ukrainian cheese imported to Russia have been stopped," the agency's Web site reported on Tuesday.
"Ukrainian cheese quality checks will be continued by Rospotrebnadzor as a part of the control and supervision measures for cheese selected from trade turnover," the agency said.
In February 2012 Russia introduce a ban on imports of cheese of some Ukrainian producers. The official reason was that the products were not in line with Russian technical milk and dairy product regulations.
On April 17, 2012, Rospotrebnadzor Head Hennady Onishchenko held talks with the Ukrainian delegation after which a mechanism for returning cheese to the Russian market was drawn up. The obligatory condition was checks of each shipment of Ukrainian cheese.
