An unseasonably cold winter and subsequent higher gas consumption has compelled the Polish gas monopoly Polskie Gornictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo (PGNiG) to increase deliveries via the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline to above-contract levels, and Poland requested that Gazprom boost deliveries in the third week of this month, the Polish paper Rzeczpospolita reports.
PGNiG does not rule out a future request for additional gas. Poland bought 9.94 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas from Gazprom last year and 10.25 bcm in 2011.
