EU Council orders European Commission to start talks with Kyiv on compensation in case of WTO tariffs' revision
The EU Council has instructed the European Commission to start the talks with Kyiv in connection with Ukraine's application to the WTO for the revision of ts tariff obligations on 370 commodity items.
This decision was taken at a meeting of the EU Council on economic and financial affairs in Brussels on February 12.
"The Council adopted a decision authorizing the Commission to start negotiations with Ukraine, under article 28 of the 1994 General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, to obtain full compensation for any modification of tariff concessions by Ukraine," the decision reads.
In September 2012, Ukraine notified WTO members of its intention to modify certain concessions in its WTO schedule related to about 370 products.
