Ukrainian opposition suggests unconventional gas moratorium
The Ukrainian parliamentary opposition suggests a temporary moratorium on unconventional hydrocarbons exploration and production and related activities until legislation to ensure the technology to perform this work is environmentally safe has been improved, says the relevant bill, registered on January 31, 2013.
The legislators do not think the environmental impact of impact of hydraulic fracturing has been studied in enough detail. The environmental research that international organizations have conducted suggests that shale gas production causes significant greenhouse gas emissions, pollutes the soil and ground water and can trigger seismic activity, they say.
