Ukraine promises to comply with WTO requirements in wheat exports
Ukraine has no plans to restrict wheat exports and promises to follow the requirements of the World Trade Organization (WTO) if there is the need to take such measures, Bloomberg has reported.
According to the report, the Ukrainian party said this at a meeting of the WTO Agriculture Committee members on Wednesday.
The issue was raised by Australia, the European Union states, Japan, the United States and South Korea due to reports on the cease of wheat shipments from Ukraine from November 15.
As reported, the limit on wheat exports from Ukraine for the current marketing year (July 2012-June 2013) has been increased from 4 million tonnes to 5.5 million tonnes.
This is stipulated in a relevant addendum to the memorandum of cooperation of October 11, 2011 signed on November 14, 2012 by the Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food and grain trading companies.
According to the ministry, since the beginning of the current season Ukraine has exported 4.78 million tonnes of wheat.
