Energy Community points to lack of connection between Ukrenergo certification and electricity imports
The Energy Community Secretariat has called "misleading" claims that the certification process of NPC Ukrenergo as an independent Transmission System Operator (TSO) is linked to the ability to import electricity from Europe.
"Claims that this process [of Ukrenergo certification] will affect Ukraine's ability to import electricity from the EU during winter are misleading. Ukraine's energy imports are crucial for ensuring reliable energy supply, particularly during the cold season when access to electricity is essential for basic services and public well-being," the Energy Community Secretariat said in a statement on its website on Tuesday.
The Secretariat explained that the certification of Ukrenergo began well before the war, with the goal of aligning its governance with EU standards.
"We regret that an internal letter from the Energy Community Secretariat, addressed to the National Commission for Regulation of Electricity and Utilities Markets (NEURC), has been misused to propagate these claims," it said.
According to the statement, the Energy Community's focus remains on supporting Ukraine's energy resilience through assistance linked to practical measures, including increasing electricity imports and repairing infrastructure.
