How much do you pay for gas this season? This question, surprisingly, puzzles a lot of people. Those, who read news at the weekend will say “Naftogaz increased price to 7.22 UAH”.
And most people will be wrong, since Naftogaz’ retail company sells gas only to 4% of the households. About 70% of the market is supplied by one group, who’s average price is almost 40% higher: 9,9 UAH (but you probably won’t see that in the news)
How come, many people do not know their price? The reason is simple: lack of knowledge of the new market and competitive situation in the gas market. Today, there are many different suppliers with different prices already and all people have a choice.
50 different suppliers available each with it’s own price for any household. We just don’t get used to this yet. What we can say to most customers: you can pay less! And this is a possibility that emerged only after full liberalization of the market since August 1st.
Like for every citizen of the EU, Ukrainians now benefit from market based pricing. And 2020 prices are much lower than 2019 prices. All customers of Naftogaz retail company will benefit in full from this lower prices. The most important competitors, however, decided to keep prices at 2019 levels and increase their own profits.
