Vice-Premier Vilkul: U16 EuroBasket 2013 to be held at a very high level

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Vilkul has said he is confident that the U16 European Basketball Championship 2013 in Kyiv will be held at a very high level.

"Every new event of this scale presents Ukraine to the world, giving reason to talk about our country. Ukraine can organize high-level basketball events, and we will still hold a lot of sporting events of this kind," he said at a pre-tournament press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday.

The cup that will be awarded to the winners of the championship was presented during the press conference.

"The cup of the tournament acquired its modern form in 2006, and the medals of the tournament were developed by the local organizing committee especially for it. They were produced in Ukraine in accordance with the latest international trends. The logo of the tournament, which was colored using special enamel, is placed in the center of the medal," Tournament Director Markiyan Lubkivsky said.

He said that the local organizing committee had worked for several months to organize the championship at the highest level and provide the best conditions for all participants.

The U16 European Basketball Championship 2013 will be held in Kyiv's Sports Palace from August 8 to August 18, 2013. It will bring together 16 European teams. A total of 72 matches will be played.
