Swimming Federation of Ukraine wants to separate from Sports Ministry and win right for Ukraine to host European championship in 2018
The Swimming Federation of Ukraine wants to become an organization independent of the Youth and Sports Ministry, the federation's first vice-president, Dmytro Kachurovsky, has said.
"The Swimming Federation of Ukraine should become an independent and self-organized organization, which is able to actively interact with the international swimming community," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday.
He said that the result of this work should be the receipt by Ukraine of the right to host the European swimming championship, as well as World Cup stages.
"Today we set the task of participation and victory in the competition for the holding of the European Swimming Championship in 2018 and World Cup stages," Kachurovsky said.
He also added that the federation would participate in the preparation of the Ukrainian Olympic team for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and the Olympic Games in 2020.
He said that in international practice, basketball and hockey arenas are widely used during the holding of swimming competitions of this class - there are technologies that help build within two weeks the swimming arenas in hockey or basketball courts, with stands for a large number of spectators.
"Given that Ukraine is preparing for EuroBasket 2015, in 2018 we will have excellent infrastructure for such a class of competitions," Kachurovsky said.
He also said that the organization plans to continue working towards the promotion of sports swimming among Ukrainians, as well as help training teachers of swimming lessons.
As reported, the Education and Science Ministry initiated the introduction of national swimming lessons for primary school children in 2013.
