Representatives of the European Basketball Federation (FIBA Europe) have said they remain satisfied with a strategy proposed by the Basketball Federation of Ukraine (BFU) and the EuroBasket 2015 local organizing committee regarding the holding of the U-16 European basketball championship in 2013 and information about plans on preparations for EuroBasket 2015.

"The decisions we presented, in particular, on the venue of competitions, the accommodation of FIBA Europe's target groups and the logistics of competitions were approved by our colleagues. While discussing the course of preparations for the finals of the European basketball championship in 2015 FIBA Europe experts were briefed on plans for the construction of multipurpose arenas in Ukraine hosting the championship," the press service of the local organizing committee quoted the director of the EuroBasket 2015 tournament, Markiyan Lubkivsky, as saying on Tuesday.

He said that FIBA Europe and the EuroBasket 2015 local organizing committee had already started monitoring the construction of these arenas in terms of their meeting all modern standards, particularly with regard to safety and comfort for teams and spectators.

FIBA Europe experts visited Kyiv on February 25-26. They familiarized themselves with the hotel infrastructure in the Ukrainian capital, visited Kyiv's Sports Palace and the Institute of Physical Education and Sports, met with BFU President Oleksandr Volkov and BFU Secretary General Oleksandr Larin, and held a meeting with the staff of the EuroBasket 2015 local organizing committee.

FIBA Europe is to hear a report by BFU President Volkov on the state of Ukraine's preparations for EuroBasket 2015 at a meeting of the organization's board, which will be held in Dubrovnik (Croatia) on March 16-17.
