Polish govt negotiating with farmers, trade unions to unblock borders – Duda

The Polish government is negotiating with farmers, as well as trade unions, to unblock traffic across the Ukrainian-Polish border, Polish President Andrzej Duda said in an exclusive interview with Ukrainian Radio.

"I know that negotiations are now taking place between the Polish government and farmers, as well as trade unions, to unblock the borders and to make this possible. But this blocking of the border is not the decision of the Polish government, this is not the decision of any Polish government. This it's just a decision made by farmers, farmer organizations," Duda said.

The President of Poland also said: "These protests, one might say, have now spread throughout almost the entire European Union. Simply put, farmers are afraid of a huge influx of Ukrainian agricultural products into the markets of the European Union countries... They demand that the European Union resolve this issue at the level of Brussels. And negotiations on this matter are now underway."

According to him, the problem of the influx of Ukrainian food began even earlier.

"It started because of Russian aggression against Ukraine. Because let's remember that it is Russian aggression against Ukraine that is to blame for everything, and not someone else. If there had been no Russian aggression against Ukraine, then this problem would not have arisen at all. The problem is that Russia attacked Ukraine," the Polish president said.
