The United Nations General Assembly on Friday adopted a resolution calling for an "immediate, durable and sustained humanitarian truce" between Israeli forces and Hamas militants in Gaza, the UN website reported on Friday evening.

The resolution also demands "continuous, sufficient and unhindered" provision of vital goods and services to civilians trapped in the enclave.

The document calls for the "immediate and unconditional release" of all civilians being illegally held captive, and also demanded that all parties "immediately and fully comply" with obligations under international humanitarian and human rights laws.

The resolution does not specifically mention the Hamas group, which controls Gaza.

The voting results on the resolution as a whole are as follows: 120 votes in favor, 14 against, and 45 abstentions. Ukraine, together with Australia, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Japan, Sweden, the UK and other countries, abstained.
