Saakashvili intends to appeal in court migration service's refusal to file documents to grant him refugee status

The leader of the New Forces Movement party, ex-head of Odesa Regional Administration, ex-President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili intends to appeal the order of the State Migration Service in Kyiv region, which refused to file documents for resolving the issue on recognizing him as a refugee or a person who needs additional protection.

"I do not agree with the refusal of the migration service and I will urgently appeal in the Kyiv District Administrative Court order No. 99 dated November 1, 2017 of the Ukrainian State Migration Service in Kyiv region, as well as message No. 30 dated November 1, 2017 in accordance with the law "On refugees and persons in need of additional or temporary protection," Saakashvili wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

The politician noted that he thoroughly substantiated the reasons and grounds for possible risks for his persecution in Georgia, and all the evidence he referred to when filing an application for additional protection was confirmed by the resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in 2015, which concluded that he and his team were persecuted for political reasons, and also confirmed by the report of the U.S. State Department for 2015 on the violation of human rights in Georgia on the basis of political motives.
