Ukraine's embassy in Russia confirms detention of Ukrainian journalist Tsimbaliuk in Moscow

Ukraine's Embassy in Russia has confirmed the fact that correspondent of the Ukrainian-based information agency UNIAN Roman Tsymbaliuk has been detained in Moscow, however, it has not elaborated on details, including the reason for the detention, head of the consular department of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's Consular Service Vasyl Kyrylych has said.

"The Embassy of Ukraine in the Russian Federation confirms the detention of journalist Roman Tsymbaliuk. Now the consul is at the police station, checking and verifying information about his detention," Kyrylych told Interfax-Ukraine in a comment on Tuesday evening.

He also said that the embassy had already contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation to clarify the circumstances of Tsymbaliuk's apprehension.

Tsymbaliuk, who is now at the police station, wrote on Facebook: "[I've been] at the police station for two hours already, [they] must release [me] in an hour. We will proceed from this."

Earlier reports said about Tsymbaliuk's detention in Moscow. His documents are reported to have been seized. "We were detained, taken to a local police station to check if video filming [of an interview in Moscow] was 'legal.' For the first time [I'm] in a police car:) Accreditation from the Russian Foreign Ministry did not work. They claim we were shouting slogans and maybe holding a 'rally,'" he wrote.
