Ukraine warns OSCE of possible 'adequate response' to militants shelling

2 min read

The staff representing Ukraine in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC) of the ceasefire and stabilization along the dividing line in Donbas have informed monitors at the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) of an escalation of the situation along the dividing line over the weekend, a JCCC spokesperson said on Monday.

The statement has been posted on the official site of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.

Ukraine is ready to give an "adequate response" to militants shelling in the event of lives of Ukrainian soldiers being put at risk "by weapons not prohibited by the Minsk agreements," the statement said.

Ukraine is extremely concerned by the reports of systemic discoveries near the contact line of hostile weapons and military hardware which were supposed to have been removed at a certain distance under the Minsk agreements.

"A large quantity of prohibited weapons are hidden at commercial warehouses, which is why OSCE monitors were given the exact coordinates of the location of prohibited weapons and military hardware in the breakaway parts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and asked to promptly check this information," the statement said.

The JCCC's Ukrainian representatives also welcome the broadened presence of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in the military-operation zone, and is ready to urgently consider and agree upon deployment of the Mission's forward patrol bases in the government-controlled areas, should there be such a request from the OSCE SMM.
