Trilateral Contact Group for Ukraine holds video-consultations on Malaysia Airlines crash

Members of the Trilateral Contact Group for settling the situation in Ukraine conducted video-consultations regarding the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 crash in Donetsk region on July 22.

"During these meetings, including the latest one of July 22, it had been possible to achieve progress on a number of problems emanating from the situation in the aftermath of the MH17 tragedy," the OSCE said in a report on the meeting available on its Web site on Tuesday.

The participants, i.e. former Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma, Russian Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov, and OSCE chairperson-in-office representative Heidi Tagliavini, in particular, discussed the repatriation of most of the plane crash victims' bodies and the handing over of the plane's 'black boxes' to international experts with "representatives of separatists operating in eastern Ukraine."

"In all the video consultations, the Contact Group highlighted the importance of secure access to the crash site and safety for the recovery and investigation workers," it said.

"Together with the efforts to provide assistance for the solving of problems arising from the airplane crash tragedy, the Trilateral Contact Group will continue its determined efforts aimed at achieving a sustainable peaceful solution to the conflict in eastern Ukraine," it said.
