Rada calls on world to declare Malaysian plane crash as terrorist attack committed by militants with support of Russian authorities

Kyiv, July 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Verkhovna Rada has adopted a statement proposing to declare the Malaysian Boeing-777 passenger plane crash as a terrorist attack committed by militants with the support of the Russian authorities.

The Ukrainian parliament also called on world leaders to take all measures to conduct an objective investigation into the tragedy.

A total of 236 MPs adopted the statement on the tragic death of people due to a terrorist attack on Ukrainian territory.

"A Malaysia Airlines Boeing-777 passenger plane carrying about 300 passengers was shot down on July 17, 2014 over Ukrainian territory near the town of Torez in Donetsk region. According to the competent Ukrainian authorities, this terrorist attack was committed by militants fighting against Ukraine in Donetsk region, using a Buk air defense missile system that was supplied by the Russian Federation and was operated by Russian servicemen. All those on board the aircraft died because of this barbaric act," reads the document.

The statement notes that this was made possible "thanks to militants getting support from the current leadership of the Russian Federation, providing them with modern equipment and weapons, including missile systems to hit aerial targets."

The parliament described such actions by the Russian authorities as provocative "acts of international terrorism that lead to the deaths of not only Ukrainian citizens, but also citizens of other states."

"Illegal weapons supplies by the Russian authorities to Ukraine and the sending of Russian mercenaries and members of the Russian Armed Forces for participation in hostilities against Ukraine are acts of military aggression against Ukraine, with all signs of international terrorist activities, the embodiment of which are such organizations as Al-Qaeda etc. The same road has been chosen by the so-called self-proclaimed organizations – DPR and LPR," reads the statement.

The statement also reads that Russia's aggression is becoming a threat to the entire world.

In this regard, the Verkhovna Rada proposed that international and European organizations, and the leaders of foreign countries take all necessary measures to investigate the circumstances of the tragedy; establish and bring to justice the perpetrators of the terrorist attack, and to recognize DPR and LPR as terrorist organizations. The parliament also wants the international community to take joint action with Ukraine, including in the military-technical sphere, aimed at ending the activities of terrorist groups fighting against Ukraine and endangering peace and stability.
