Malaysian airliner crash to be probed in Netherlands - Poroshenko

The investigation into the crash of the Malaysian airliner in Donetsk region will be held in the Netherlands, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said.

"Yesterday, after a conversation with the Dutch prime minister, I ordered the head of the investigation commission, Deputy Prime Minister Volodymyr Hroisman, and Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin to ensure the immediate repatriation of the bodies and the holding of investigative measures by the ICAO-led commission in the Netherlands," he said after visiting the Embassy of the Netherlands in Ukraine on Monday.

"We received assurances that the Netherlands will provide maximum assistance to the actions of this investigative commission," he added.

Poroshenko also said that "this terrible tragedy has united our countries - Ukraine and the Netherlands."

"We have never seen so many flowers on Kontraktova Square as we see today near the Dutch embassy. Despite the fact that Ukraine itself now goes through a terrible ordeal, despite the fact that Ukraine itself suffers many casualties, I think that this sea of flowers is a symbol of the dignity of our peoples - the dignity that was demonstrated during the Maidan," he said.

Poroshenko said that Ukraine and the Netherlands "clearly agreed to coordinate their actions not only in repatriating the bodies, not only in investigating the causes of the disaster, but also in very strictly coordinating action to ensure that the perpetrators, organizers and sponsors of this heinous crime can be brought to justice and punished. "
