U.S. supports pro-EU protest at Maidan – senators McCain, Murphy

Two U.S. senators from different parties say the United States supports Ukraine's European integration aspirations.

The future of Ukraine is in joining Europe and the U.S. supports this choice, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on European Affairs Christopher Murphy of the Democratic Party said when speaking on Kyiv's Independence Square, or Maidan, on Sunday.

Murphy said that as the youngest out of 100 U.S. senators he had a special message to the young people gathered at Maidan. The path towards changes is via a peaceful protest and the U.S. welcomes the fact that despite the violence which occurred at Maidan the protestors support peaceful rallies, the senator said.

Murphy said he urged to continue the fight.

The U.S. does support rally participants, their peaceful protest and fight inspire Ukraine for changes, Senator John McCain of the Republican Party said when welcoming those gathered at Maidan. McCain said that the two senators come to support the right of Ukraine to change its destiny freely, peacefully and democratically. Ukraine's destiny is in united Europe - Ukraine will make Europe better and Europe will make Ukraine better, McCain said. Protestors applauded to McCain's speech.

The U.S. is with Ukraine, the senator said.
