Opposition faction leaders will most likely participate in a nationwide roundtable meeting entitled "Let's Unite Ukraine" on Friday, a source in the opposition has told Interfax-Ukraine.

"Those speaking at a rally today are calling on opposition leaders to pass a statement to [Ukrainian President Viktor] Yanukovych about the inadmissibility of a military scenario against Euromaidan protesters, and the leaders will most likely do it at the roundtable," the source said.

At the same time, Euromaidan commandant Yehor Sobolev, while speaking from the stage at a pro-EU rally in Kyiv, said that opposition leaders would participate in the roundtable.

"The opposition leaders are currently heading to participate in a roundtable meeting with President Yanukovych. This is a difficult step, and they made this decision after consulting with the public and Euromaidan activists," he said on Friday.

Earlier on Friday, the official Web site of the Ukrainian president reported that Yanukovych would participate in a national roundtable on Friday.

The purpose of the event is to discuss public proposals aimed at achieving political stability, public peace and calm in Ukraine.

The meeting will be attended by representatives of the Ukrainian government, political parties, trade unions, the student movement, experts, as well as the creative and scientific community.
