Almost everyone brought to street from Kyiv Mayor's Office, security, mass media remain inside

The actions of the Ukrainian authorities, in particular closing several subway stations in central Kyiv and the cordon of the special police unit Berkut at Kyiv's main street Khreschatyk are rather a mere demonstration of force and do not imply any aggressive actions or the planning to storm the Kyiv Mayor's Office, deputy of the Batkivschyna faction Oleksandr Bryhynets said.

"People come to us and say that something needs to be done, we responded that our task is to stand peacefully and the same thing is happening with the authorities, they also need to do something. And so they started showing what they can do in order to scare people away. I am an optimist and I do not believe that the Ukrainian Army, Berkut and the president will dare to use force against the Ukrainian people following the Maidan events," Bryhynets told Interfax-Ukraine on Monday near the Kyiv Mayor's Office building.

The European and world structures will definitely remind Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych of his promise not to use force against peaceful citizens, Bryhynets said.

Almost all the people have been brought from the column hall of the Kyiv Mayor's Office, where rally participants were, the Interfax correspondent reported. Mainly security staff of the National Resistance Headquarters and mass media remained in the building.

Many members of the self-defense units are wearing helmets and knee and elbow pads. Some of them are armed with hand-made wooden sticks made of chairs.
