Yatseniuk to give president letter from opposition with seven demands

Batkivschyna faction leader Arseniy Yatseniuk will give Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych a letter from the opposition with seven demands, which was signed by the leaders of three opposition factions.

"While Viktor Yanukovych is afraid of coming to parliament, we are not afraid of coming to Viktor Yanukovych. We have a list of demands signed by the leaders of the three opposition factions. I will deliver this letter," he told reporters on Wednesday before entering the building of the presidential administration.

"These are the demands that we developed together: Ukraine's accession to the European Union, the release of [former Prime Minister] Yulia Tymoshenko, (overcoming) the economic crisis, a ban on the privatization of the gas transportation system, (overcoming) the incredible corruption in the country, the electoral law and the holding of fair and transparent elections, as well as issues national culture, language and Ukrainian national dignity," Yatseniuk said.

He said that the opposition expects the president to fulfill these demands, present his annual address in the Verkhovna Rada and answer the questions from the opposition.

He added that he had arrived for the meeting with the president, because Yanukovych "should get a list of demands and should know that we are not afraid of him."

An Interfax-Ukraine reporter said that Batkivschyna MPs had been let into the building of the presidential administration.
