Mass rallies outside the Verkhovna Rada buildings took place without any violation of public order, according to the media liaison office of Ukraine's Interior Ministry.

The office reported on Tuesday night that there was an application for the participation of about 20,000 people, while, according to information available, there were a mere over 4,000 people who took part in the rallies.

"Seven hundred law enforcers were involved in maintaining public order in accordance with estimates of required forces and funds. Law enforcers cordoned the venues where participants in two rallies gathered so that they could prevent possible clashes between the supporters of the rival political forces," the office said.

The police ensured that they will continue to operate within the legal field and in the manner stipulated in laws.

The law enforcement agency also called on rally organizers to "strictly adhere to the legal procedure of holding rallies and demonstrations in future and not to violate public order, not to provoke conflicts and incite protesters to violent conflicts with law enforcement officers, but on the contrary, to let police officers guard public order."

As reported, opposition-minded activists gathered outside the Ukrainian parliament building on Tuesday morning. They demanded that a mayoral election date in Kyiv be set. At the same time there was a simultaneous rally under the slogan "Ukrainian Youth for a European Future" in Mariyinsky Park in front of the main entrance to the Verkhovna Rada building. The two rallies were cordoned by Berkut special police unit officers.
