Ukraine's Interior Ministry warns of criminal liability for blocking streets in central Kyiv

Ukraine's Interior Ministry says it urges participants in protest rallies in Kyiv not to violate rights of other people by blocking streets and it warns them of criminal liability.

"According to the information of the Interior Ministry crisis center, as of 1730, about 100,000 people participated in large-scale rallies in the capital. Activists have blocked the streets in central Kyiv and are installing tents there. Thus, the traffic is blocked at the intersections of Instytutska and Bankova Streets, Lypska Street, Klovsky Descent as well as at the intersection of Luteranska and Bankova Street, Luteranska and Kruhlouniversytetska Street, of Shovkovychna and Bohomoltsia Streets, Hrushevsky Street and Kriposny Lane are blocked," the Interior Ministry posted a statement on its Web site.

The actions of those participating in peaceful gatherings should not violate other citizens' rights, the document said. "As to blocking the traffic, such actions are subject to criminal liability," the Interior Ministry said.

Almost 5,000 law enforcement officers guard public order in Kyiv on Sunday.
