Concern head: Ukroboronprom preparing creation of JV with foreign partners

The Ukroboronprom State Concern is working on the creation of joint ventures (JVs) with foreign partners as part of the structural reform of the Ukrainian defense industry, Ukroboronprom Head Roman Romanov has told Interfax-Ukraine.

"Today we have drawn up and sent to parliament a bill regulating the creation of JVs with foreign partners in the defense and industrial complex," he said.

He recalled that on July 14 Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada permitted the creation of JVs in aviation industry.

"The decision for aviation industry is a first step in the implementation of the shaped plans," he said.

Romanov said that in June an aircraft building cluster, called Ukrainian Aircraft Corporation (UAC) that includes key aircraft building enterprises. This was done as part of the restructuring of the defense and industrial complex.

"Armored vehicle and tank building, radio-electronic combat devices and ammunition will be next," he said.

He found it difficult to name the terms of competing the restructuring and expenses for this reform. He said that the reform would not require large additional funds.

Created by the presidential decree in December 2010, Ukroboronprom, according to the law adopted by the parliament in June 2011, together with the government ensures the management of state property objects in the defense industry.
