Surkis becomes UEFA vice-president

The UEFA Executive Committee at a meeting on Friday appointed five UEFA vice-presidents for 2013-2015, reads a statement posted on UEFA's official Web site.

In particular, they are Senes Erzik (Turkey), Angel Maria Villar Llona (Spain), Marios Lefkaritis (Cyprus), Giancarlo Abete (Italy) and Hryhoriy Surkis (Ukraine).

A UEFA Executive Committee meeting took place immediately after the 37th Ordinary UEFA Congress. New members of the executive committee were elected at it.

"As there were only eight candidates for the eight available seats on the UEFA Executive Committee, the election took place by acclamation. Giancarlo Abete (Italy), Allan Hansen (Denmark), Frantisek Laurinec (Slovakia), Marios Lefkaritis (Cyprus), Avraham Luzon (Israel) and Michael van Praag (Netherlands) were re-elected, while David Gill (England) and Wolfgang Niersbach (Germany) were newly elected for a four-year term," reads the statement.

Similarly, and as there were only four candidates for the four European seats on the FIFA Executive Committee, Michel D'Hooghe (Belgium), Senes Erzik (Turkey), Marios Lefkaritis (Cyprus) and Vitaly Mutko (Russia) were re-elected by acclamation for a four-year term.

Surkis has been a member of the UEFA Executive Committee since 2004.
