Black Sea Oilseed Market In 2015/16: What’s New?

2 min read
In July almost all the world's leading analysts raised their estimates for oilseeds harvest in 2014/15. This is not surprising - in favor of the record harvest speaks expansion of sowing areas and excellent agro-meteorological conditions. Besides, the growth is largely determined by an increase in soybean production. The USDA raised their July forecast of the global soybean production in 2014/15 by 4.8 MMT to 304.8 MMT. Updated projections of Informa Economics total 302.2 MMT exceeding previous estimate by 4 MMT. Natural reaction of oilseed and veg oil market to such optimism was a sharp fall in prices on the exchanges and in the cash market for the past weeks. Almost no doubts arise of 2014/15 to become the second consecutive season with a record high oilseed production and record low prices. This, in turn, raises questions about oilseed margins and acreage in the next 2015/16 season. This is particularly relevant for the Black Sea region and Ukraine since farmers may face additional risks associated with inputs and sowing campaign in 2015. Should we expect increase in prices and margins rise in the 2015/16? What are the prospects for oilseeds crop in 2015/16 globally and in the Black Sea region? These questions will be answered by a leading expert on commodity markets - Emile Mehmet, The Public Ledger, United Kingdom, in his presentation "Global demand and supply of oilseeds and vegetable oils. Forecast for 2015/16" at the International Conference "Black Sea Oil Trade-2014" which will be held on September 9, 2014 at Hilton Kyiv, Ukraine. The organizer is Consulting agency UkrAgroConsult. International Conference “Black Sea Oil Trade – 2014” is an effective platform for discussion of topical issues in the oilseed market of the Black Sea countries.
