Euromaidan returns Christmas tree to children

3 min read
Ukrainian children will have an opportunity to enjoy a real Christmas tree near the traditional one if everyone who supports the Euromaidan rally goals helps. "In response to the statements made by the government representatives and some well-known Ukrainians saying that because of the Euromaidan rally children will be deprived of a traditional symbol of the festive season – the main Christmas tree of the country – we decided to remedy the situation and install a Christmas tree for children in the very heart of the capital," an initiator of the EuroNewYearTree action, Natalia Krasnenkova, said. The location for "the Christmas beauty" was chosen for a good reason – it will be installed on the square in front of the National Opera House of Ukraine, near the Monument to Mykola Lysenko, where a festive New Year and Christmas town will be located. The initiators of the action noted that not all parents would be able to take their kids to the Euromaidan rally, as it can be dangerous, considering recent bloody events on the site on the night of December 1. "The Christmas tree on the Maidan and the Christmas tree installed by the municipal servicers near the Arch of People’s Friendship cannot compete with our initiative. The first one is more a symbol of freedom and independence of the Ukrainian people, while the second one looks like a sop from the municipal services that are ready to beat peaceful people’s heads in order to install the Christmas beauty!" Natalia said. We hope that our Christmas tree in the center of the capital will be the best option, moreover we've got permission for the installation of a Christmas tree as a part of the festive town. "The key goal of our initiative is to show Kyiv residents and guests that the installation of a Christmas tree doesn’t require a budget of thousands. Initiative and efforts of ordinary people can implement any project with minimum expenditures and in the shortest term," the organizer of the initiative, Lesia Shutko, said. Just in two days the organizers found a place with permission for the installation of the Christmas tree, arranged electricity supply, ordered the installation and demounting of the construction, and found and ordered a Christmas tree that will be delivered from Dnipropetrovsk. Now they have a little left to do – buy the tree, deliver it to Kyiv and decorate it with the assistance of Kyiv residents and Euromaidan activists. The initiators decided that, considering the limited time, the best decision is to buy an artificial Christmas tree. "We selected a street Christmas tree that is five meters high. We are addressing everyone who shares the Euromaidan goals and wants to present children with a feast. What is even more important – after the festive season we will pass the tree to one of orphan homes for the next New Year, as it will be in the ownership of Kyiv residents," Natalia Krasnenkova said. The purchase, delivery, decoration, installation and dismounting of the Christmas tree (http://cristmas.com.ua/ulichnye/34-ulichnaja-elka-klassika-500.html) will take around UAH 9,000. The money can be transferred to the banking card No. 5577 2127 0356 1764, Privat Bank, Germashova Olena Yuriivna or passed personally to Natalia Krasnenkova (067-4655426) or Lesia Shutko (067-2453875) and other activists of the EuroNewYearTree initiative (https://www.facebook.com/euroNewYeartree). Kyiv residents are invited to bring decorations for the Christmas tree and actively partake in the decorating of the Christmas tree!
