Ukraine was elected to the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO, the press service of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine reports.

"Today, June 11, Ukraine was elected for the first time to the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage for a four-year term from the date of election during the 10th session of the General Assembly of States Parties to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage at UNESCO headquarters in Paris," the message says.

The department called this event historic for Ukraine and an important step in the protection of Ukrainian intangible cultural heritage. "The election of Ukraine to the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage not only contributes to the positive image of the state, but will also contribute to the effective achievement and implementation of the goals of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, as well as the obligations undertaken by Ukraine to implement the Convention," the press service said.

According to the report, Ukraine submitted its candidacy at the end of 2023.
