Mykolaiv should become the entry point for innovative technological production into the all-Ukrainian market.
The mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Senkevych, expressed this opinion in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
"The biggest problem (at the stage of post-war reconstruction) for Mykolaiv will be the creation of new jobs. This requires attracting investment. I do not consider Mykolaiv as a market for goods services, but rather a door - the entry point of innovative technological production for the all-Ukrainian market," he said during an interview at the International Summit of Mayors in Chisinau.
Senkevych added that shipbuilding will retain its status as one of the key areas of development, but not on the same scale as before.
"We must use our advantages - access to the sea, a port zone. But all this will be impossible without additional financial instruments, such as special economic zones. If we are talking about Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Kherson, this is about proximity to Russia, this is about risks. If we are talking about risks, then the higher they are, the greater the margin should be. Territories that are closer to Russia, in a greater risk zone, should be given special economic instruments. You can remove the tax burden: deprive these territories of some taxes, for example, for 10-20-30 years. We talked about such initiatives with the president, he fundamentally supports such ideas. We are now studying the practices of special economic zones in different countries, and are also trying to cooperate with potential investors to hear their needs," the mayor of Mykolaiv said.
Among the industries that may be in demand in the near future, he named production of construction materials, construction equipment, and transport.
"Export-oriented production, because, again, Ukraine will be one of the major markets after the end of the war," he added.
