There are currently more than 36,000 entries in the register of persons missing in special circumstances, and the fate of a certain number of missing persons can be found out in war conditions, said Artur Dobroserdov, Commissioner for Missing Persons in Special Circumstances.

In an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine, the Commissioner said that the work on creating the register of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was commissioned back in May 2023, when the Ministry of Reintegration had the functionality for missing persons.

"The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine was involved in the administration of the register and the issuance of extracts upon request in October (2023). That is, since then we have received the authority and are working in this direction," the Commissioner explained.

He added: "When the registry was accepted, there were more than 9,000 accounts in it. Currently, there are already more than 36,000 such records."

Dobroserdov drew attention to the fact that world practice indicates the need to accumulate all information about missing military, civilians and children in a single register. "The information must be constantly updated, verified and up-to-date," the Commissioner stressed.

"Our task is to accumulate information from all other government agencies that are involved in collecting data on missing persons and their search. It is also extremely important what families and public organizations do - we also collect information from them," Dobroserdov explained.

He said that it is planned to strengthen the analytical function of the register so that it provides information on the number of women/men, military/civilian, and eventually make it possible to search for specific anthropometric data and special signs.

According to Dobroserdov, the fate of a certain number of missing persons can be found out in war conditions. At the same time, he admitted that "the majority will be found after our Victory."
