Macron: We’ll be ready to make necessary decisions so that Russia never wins

French President Emmanuel Macron has said that if the situation worsens in Ukraine, "we must be ready, and we will be ready to make the necessary decisions so that Russia never wins."

"... if the Russian Federation continues to escalate, if the situation worsens, we must be ready. And we will be ready. We will be ready to make the necessary decisions so that Russia never wins," he said in an interview with TF1 and France 2 TV channels.

Speaking about relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Macron noted that he is "probably the leader who talked to him [Putin] the most."

"Yes, but now there is a slight coldness between you. But it's not personal. These are not personal things, and I don't want to personalize them here," he added.

In addition, the French President stated: "I want our compatriots to understand that there is only one person responsible for the situation we are in - the Kremlin regime."

At the same time, Macron admitted that "we do not have a defense industry adapted to a war of high territorial intensity."

He also called for maintaining European unity to support Ukraine, "in the name of peace."

"The responsibility for this war, the responsibility for the strikes that are being inflicted on the Ukrainian front, is borne only by Russia. Our responsibility is to be strong for the sake of peace. Our responsibility is precisely to preserve this European unity," Macron said.

Answering a question about a possible appeal to loans to finance support for Kyiv, Macron replied that he did not rule it out.

"This is a proposal made by the Prime Minister of Estonia. This is not a French proposal. But I support it," the French President said.
