USA about to announce new $300 mln aid package for Ukraine – media

The White House is expected to announce as soon as Tuesday that it will send a new package of weapons worth $300 million to Ukraine, and it will include a number of Army Tactical Missile Systems, Politico reported referring to U.S. officials with knowledge of the discussions.

“The package will include a number of the Anti-Personnel/Anti-Materiel, or APAM, an older version of the long-range ATACMS, which travels 100 miles and carries warheads containing hundreds of cluster bomblets, according to one of the officials,” the ezine informed.

Also, the batch should include shells for howitzers of 155 mm caliber, guided missiles used in multiple rocket launchers M270 MLRS and M142 HIMARS.

According to a Politico source, the Pentagon is using previously saved resources for this assistance package, but this is a temporary solution. “This is not an alternative path for a supplemental,” an unnamed representative of the U.S. Department of Defense summed up.

Last fall, the U.S. administration sent a request to Congress for additional funds to provide further assistance to Ukraine and Israel; in particular, Kyiv was offered to allocate $61.4 billion for a year. However, it has not been possible yet to approve this financing.
