URCS launches mobile rehabilitation teams in long-distance communities

The Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) is launching mobile rehabilitation teams in long-distance communities.

"The Ukrainian Red Cross, as part of piloting rehabilitation services in communities, will provide support to people in need of additional services after undergoing treatment and the acute phase of rehabilitation. These are war veterans, elderly people or persons with disabilities, as well as people of other vulnerable categories living in long-distance areas without easy access to rehabilitation services," the society said on Friday on Facebook.

The first team has already started daily trips to Lutsk district of Volyn region.

According to Head of the Department of Rehabilitation and Support of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society Hanna Didenko, over time, such a service will be available in Rivne region, and in the future – in other regions of Ukraine.

"For now, the project is being implemented with the support of the German Red Cross, in cooperation with regional health departments," Didenko said.

The number of departures and routes will be adjusted depending on the needs of the local population.

The team includes rehabilitation specialists who have received clinical training, psychological first aid training, and specialized training from the World Health Organization and other organizations.

The service itself involves not only accompanying the person, but also teaching him and his family members, caretakers, guardians how to use auxiliary means of rehabilitation, what communication and care should be like for a person with a disability so that he feels like a full-fledged member of society.
