Russia plans to produce 2.7 mln artillery shells this year - GUR

The Russians produced about two million rounds of 122 mm and 152 mm ammunition last year, and this year they want to reach 2.7 million, said Deputy Head of the Main Intelligence Agency of Ukraine (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Major General Vadym Skybytsky.

"Our assessment is as follows: the Russians manufactured last year - they just fulfilled the state defense order - about two million rounds of 122 mm, 152 mm ammunition," Skybytsky said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

"Russia was able to produce two million rounds of ammunition, and this year, it seems, it wants to reach 2.7 million rounds. But these are plans. Let's see if they will be implemented,” the GUR said.

Skybytsky added that the announced volumes require modernization of production and sanctions play an important role in countering this.

"Therefore, we ask our partners that sanctions should be directed at machine tools, materials used to make electronic chips, microchips and so on. So this is a very wide range, and the General Directorate of Intelligence and our entire intelligence community are currently working in this area. This applies to everything related to the production of weapons. And I'm not talking about the number of enterprises that Russia is involved in production. Dozens of enterprises and companies are associated with the production of this or that munition or type of weapons and equipment," the Major General noted.
