Zelenskyy allows foreigners to serve in National Guard

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree according to which foreigners who meet the requirements for military service can voluntarily serve in the National Guard of Ukraine.

This is enshrined in presidential decree No. 84/2024, published on the website of the head of state on February 21.

"Foreigners who are legally present on the territory of Ukraine, have no previous convictions and meet the requirements for military service defined by the Law of Ukraine On military duty and military service, can be accepted voluntarily (under contract) for military service in the National Guard Ukraine," he said in the decree.

Foreigners undergo: contract military service for privates and contract military service for sergeants and senior officers.

According to the decree, a contract is concluded with foreigners who are accepted voluntarily for military service for foreigners or stateless persons to perform the appropriate type of military service in the National Guard of Ukraine.

It is also noted that "the lists of positions that cannot be filled by foreigners and stateless persons, and military units of the National Guard of Ukraine in which foreigners and stateless persons cannot serve, are determined by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine."
