Hungary ready to increase its efforts for peace onset in Ukraine – Szijjarto

Hungary is ready to increase its efforts to bring peace to Ukraine and will continue to provide humanitarian support to it, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said.

"In Ukraine, our neighbor has a war going on for almost two years. Hungary's point of view during these two years has always been unequivocal - we support the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. We condemn the war and want peace to come to our neighborhood as soon as possible," Szijjarto said during a press conference with the heads of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the President’s Office.

He also told how, upon arrival in Uzhgorod, together with his Ukrainian counterpart, he visited the cemetery where the defenders of Ukraine who died during the war are buried.

"We commemorated the Heroes who died during the war. This also underlines that we must also speak with greater intensity in international politics about the need for peace. We must increase our efforts so that people in Ukraine can live comfortably in peace. Hungary is ready to make efforts, because we know that people's lives can only be saved during peace," Szijjarto stressed.

The Hungarian Foreign Minister also assured that he would continue to provide humanitarian support to Ukraine.

"Over the past two years, we have been carrying out the largest humanitarian action in the history of Hungary [as aid to Ukraine]," he said.

"Our humanitarian assistance has affected more than 1.5 million families in 20 regions of Ukraine. We support hospitals, schools, and rebuild them. We provide assistance in both education and healthcare. We will continue to do so," he concluded.
