Zaluzhny right that Ukraine needs new approaches in war against Russia – Danilov

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhny is right that Ukraine needs to change approaches in the war against Russia, said Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Oleksiy Danilov.

"I want to remind you of the situation that was in February and March 2022. If you remember, we then begged [partners] to give protection to our sky, to close our sky. Because it was about our children, it was about our civilians. Unfortunately, we did not receive any response at that time. And [after] help began to arrive, it gradually arrived," Danilov said in an interview with Radio Liberty.

In his opinion, "if this aid had arrived faster, then maybe there would have been other results."

"It's true. So today, with a certain time when the Russian Federation has already recovered, when they began to connect their ‘friends’ - Iran, the autocratic Korea known to everyone - we have a rather difficult situation. And that's why I think General Zaluzhny is right. We have repeatedly talked about this, including at the meetings of the Staff Headquarters meeting, that new approaches are needed," he said.

Danilov also commented on the situation with the supply of F-16 fighters to Ukraine: "I emphasize once again, it is possible to record when this conversation began [with partners]. Unfortunately, it has not yet been implemented. Any military understands that, without such parity [in the sky], it is extremely difficult to achieve the results that we need to achieve."

"But this does not mean that we will throw up our hands, we will wait for someone. In any case, our task remains unchanged - to liberate our country, to drive the enemy out of the territory that exists as of 1991. To put an end to this issue once and for all. This will definitely happen, no matter how much the enemy does not want to harm us, no matter how today someone does not start dancing to the Russian tune on the territory of certain countries. We understand what we need to do, and we are consistent in our actions," he concluded.

As reported, on November 1, The Economist published a column by Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhny, where he announced the threat of a positional war and named five priorities for Ukraine at this stage: air superiority, electronic warfare, counter-battery warfare, mine-explosive technologies and reserve buildup.
