It is impossible to hold elections during martial law, but it is necessary to discuss how to hold them after the war, First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Kornienko said.

“Right now it is impossible to hold them [elections], martial law is in force now ... Discussion of post-war elections does not mean that elections must be held tomorrow. But this needs to be discussed. And we need to find ways of high-quality expression of will in the post-war period,” Kornienko said during a national telethon on Friday.

According to Kornienko, it is necessary to conduct a discussion about holding elections after the war both with the parliaments of different countries, and with their election administration bodies, and at the government level.

He emphasized that the issue of organizing post-war elections is not simple and requires very large resources: organizational, financial, and physical.

“And it will be necessary to pass a law and establish new temporary rules. And resolve the issue of voting for our immigrants abroad. For this purpose, it is necessary to interact with other countries,” noted the first deputy speaker.
