Ukrainian citizen killed in Gaza Strip; in Israel, 18 Ukrainians killed in Hamas attack – ambassador

One Ukrainian citizen died in the Gaza Strip on Thursday night, Ambassador of Ukraine to Israel Yevhen Korniychuk said.

"Overnight, our activists confirmed the death of one Ukrainian citizen in the Gaza Strip, her personal information has also been established," Korniychuk said during a national telethon on Thursday.

He also denied information about 23 dead Ukrainian citizens, as previously reported by Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Michael Brodsky, clarifying that in fact 18 Ukrainians died from an attack by the Hamas terrorist organization.

"We have confirmed information regarding 18 killed, not 23 ones – this information does not correspond to reality... We still remain in second place [in terms of the number of our citizens killed] after the Americans, despite the fact that not 23, but 18 – this is a sad story," Korniychuk said.

He said at the moment three charter flights have already been operated, with which about 450 Ukrainian citizens were evacuated from Israel, on Thursday evening there will be a fourth, while, according to the ambassador, the demand for evacuation has started to decline. "Today there will be another evacuation flight in the evening. We already have about 80 citizens registered at this moment, in total there are 100-150 tickets... We will know more accurate information closer to the evening. The flight at 11 was set for this evening and consuls will accompany our citizens," the diplomat said.

The plane, according to Korniychuk, will fly to Romania, where evacuees will be provided with a hotel or escort to the border if necessary.

The diplomat said the situation with the evacuation of Ukrainians from the Gaza Strip is becoming more complicated. "The number of people on our evacuation list has already exceeded 300, now it is 308, but it is constantly increasing, and I think it may approach the 400 mark over the next day or two. I hope that the evacuation will begin," he said.

Korniychuk said the first vehicles with humanitarian aid have already left for the Gaza Strip, and expressed hope that Hamas "will fulfil its promise and release the foreigners."
