EU imposes 10th package of sanctions against Russia – communiqué

On Saturday, February 25, the European Union introduced the tenth package of sanctions against Russia, the EU press service has said.

"The Council decided to impose restrictive measures on an additional 87 individuals and 34 entities," according to the communiqué.

The list of restrictive measures included Russian officials, military leaders, propagandists and, among other things, the former general director of Motor Sich, Viacheslav Bohuslayev. In Ukraine, he is on trial for high treason.

In particular, the sanctions will affect such organizations as Alfa-Bank, Rosbank and Tinkoff Bank, Commercial Vehicles GAZ Group LLC, a number of Rosatom enterprises, the Patriot media group, the National Reinsurance Company, head of Rossotrudnichestvo Evgeny Primakov, authorized to human rights in Russia Tatyana Moskalkova, Deputy Head of the Government of the Moscow Region Vyacheslav Duhin for the deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia, surgeon Leonid Roshal, head of the Council under the Russian president for the development of civil society and human rights Valery Fadeev, the Rosatomflot enterprise that manages the nuclear icebreaker Navy of the Russian Federation, the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, Deputy General Director of Channel One Kirill Kleimenov, Deputy General Director of the National Media Group Alexander Akopov, military leader Alexei Avdeev, military leader Mikhail Teplinskiy, military leader Sergei Karakaev, Russia Today media group and executive director Kirill Vyshinsky, editor-in-chief of Rossiya 24 Yevgeny Bekasov, editor-in-chief of Li literary newspaper Maxim Zamshev, editor-in-chief of Regnum agency Marina Akhmedova, Sputnik news agency.

The sanctions also affected four Iranian citizens, including the managing director of the aerospace company Qods Aviation Industry.

These sanctions include asset freezes, bans on entry and transit through EU countries, and a ban on citizens and companies in the EU from providing funds to them.

"We will continue to increase pressure on Russia so as long as it takes," EU diplomat Josep Borrell said.
