Crimean parliament votes against opening U.S. diplomatic post
The Crimean parliament deems it inexpedient to open a representative office of the United States in the autonomous territory and urged the Ukrainian leadership to give up this idea, the Crimean parliament said in a letter to the Ukrainian leadership.
The letter was passed in a 77 to 9 roll-call vote with one abstention.
The letter will also be sent to the chairman of the UN General Assembly.
A charter about strategic partnership was signed between Ukraine and the United States in Washington on December 19, 2008. According to the document, Ukraine welcomes the opening of a U.S. diplomatic post in Simferopol.
