ECHR authorized to consider claims on Russia's violations committed before effective date of Russia's withdrawal from European Convention - SCM
Russia remains a member of the Council of Europe until at least September 2022, and complaints about its violation of human rights are subject to consideration by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
This was stated by the SCM press service in response to a request from Interfax-Ukraine.
"The Russian Federation is still a member of the Council of Europe and a party to the European Convention on Human Rights. The withdrawal of the country's membership will not take effect until September 2022, if at all. All complaints filed against Russia are valid and subject to consideration by the European Court of Human Rights," the company said.
Earlier it was reported that the owner of SCM, businessman Rinat Akhmetov, filed a lawsuit against Russia at the ECHR demanding that the aggressor country be held liable for the destruction of Ukrainian infrastructure.
