Deschytsia: Polish peacekeeper initiativehas no unequivocal support, it is worth talking about uniting with countries ready to fight for victory of Ukraine

Poland's initiative on a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine does not have unequivocal support in NATO, therefore, it may not be necessary to wait for the decision of the entire NATO, but it will be enough to unite with those countries that are ready to really and boldly fight for Ukraine's victory, Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland Andriy Deschytsia has said.

"At the moment, this initiative does not yet have unequivocal support in NATO. It turns out that NATO should also take these decisions unanimously. It is possible that this decision-making system also requires certain adjustments, given a real, not a play war," Deschytsia said in an exclusive interview to the Interfax-Ukraine agency.

The ambassador stressed that such a military and peacekeeping mission is needed.

"Not only for the image, but also for the practical support of Ukraine, it is important whether European countries that are not members of NATO or EU members are ready to join such a mission. Perhaps there is no need to wait for the decision of the entire NATO, perhaps it will be enough to unite with countries who are ready to really and boldly fight for the victory of Ukraine," Deschytsia said.

He noted that given that Poland has put forward such an initiative, it is ready to both lead it and be one of the leaders of this coalition.

"I think that there are already countries ready to join, at least the Czech Republic and Slovenia. The prime ministers of those countries, together with the leadership of the Polish government, recently traveled to Ukraine, are ready to join this project. Also, the Baltic countries will probably be able to join. But I also hear that Denmark and the UK are also ready to join. Perhaps there will be others who want to," Deschytsia added.

At the same time, the ambassador pointed out that Poland takes seriously the possible threat of an attack by the Russian Federation.

"At the end of last week, it adopted a relevant law on the defense of Poland. This law provides for doubling the Polish Armed Forces, up to 300,000 people, the issue of providing Poland with modern weapons and strengthening the Polish Armed Forces and territorial defense units," Deschytsia said.
