PGO opens criminal case on fact of Russia's invasion of Ukraine

The Prosecutor General's Office has opened criminal proceedings on the fact of the invasion of the Russian Armed Forces into the territory of Ukraine, according to the telegram channel of the Prosecutor General's Office.

"The Prosecutor General's Office exercises procedural guidance in the criminal proceedings initiated on February 24, 2022 by the Main Investigation Department of the Security Service of Ukraine, on the fact of the invasion of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation into the territory of northern, eastern and southern regions of Ukraine, the infliction of air and artillery strikes on the military formations of Ukraine," the message says.

According to the department, the proceedings are being investigated on the facts of encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine and the conduct of an aggressive war (part 3 of Article 110 and part 2 of Article 437 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

"The actions of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation were committed in order to change the borders of the territory and the state border of Ukraine in violation of the procedure established by the Constitution of Ukraine, as well as international law, in particular a number of international treaties. Such actions have already led to serious consequences, including the death and injury of military personnel and civilians, as well as damage and destruction of military and civilian infrastructure."

At the same time, the department notes that the prosecution authorities and the entire law enforcement system work in a coordinated manner.

"All cases of invasion and use of weapons, as well as prohibited methods and methods of warfare and other violations of international humanitarian law by units of the Russian armed forces are recorded and documented. The necessary priority investigative actions are being carried out," the report says.
